A resume reference is some one who can verify your credentials and all or part of the information you have written in your resume. References are usually contacted in the last stages of the job selection procedure. Probably after the candidate has attended the first interview.
You have to know your references well and be sure that they can give a good feedback, to anybody asking questions about your past.

* Clients
* Former project managers or supervisors
* Other contacts from industry associations

Follow Up Letters / Letters of Interest.
Letters of Interest.
Letter of interest are similar to cover letters, the only difference is that you are writing about a specific Job or position that you are applying for within the company.
Example
John Smith is searching job search engine websites such as careerbuilders.com, and monster.com. John comes across a posting that Pixar Studio is looking for a Character animators for their up and coming next feature film.
John decided to write them a letter of interest to the position because John feels that his skill and knowledge proceeds in that area. Even though John is well deverse in all forms of multimedia from graphic design, motion graphics and 3D Modeling, he also is very talented in Character animation. So John writes a letter to Pixar stating that he would be a great candidate for the position and list all hes attributes of why he would be best qualified for this position.

Follow up Letter.
There are many different meanings to a follow up letter. You may write a follow up letter as a thank you letter, stating that you are thanking the interviewer for taking the time out of his busy schedule to give you the opportunity to meet him and for him to get to know you and what you can provide to the company.
But for this follow up letter students are to write a letter following up on a recent letter of interest or cover letter that you had e-mailed or sent prior about a specific company you are applying for or a specific position. I have provided a great example below.

Writing a thank you letter, or thank you email, after an employment interview is a must. In fact, some employers think less of those interviewees who fail to follow-up promptly. Plan to send out your thank you letters or thank you notes as soon as possible (preferably within twenty-four hours) after your interview.
