GC2530 - Animation I
Unit 1. –Part 1. Key Frame Animation , Auto Keys / FFD Modifiers / FLEX Modifiers / Simple Spline Rig. 12 Principles of Animation.
1. Students are to download Spray can Billy 3D Max File.
2. Students will learn Key Frame Animations.
3. How to properly use the Flex Modifiers.
4. How to properly use FFD Modifiers.
5. Student will use Spline shapes to create simple rigs for animation.
6. Students will learn to render out 100 frame animation PNG image sequences.
Part 2.
7. Students will take both Diffuse and Ambient Occlusion rendered images
And compile them using After Effects to render out a Quicktime H264 movie
To upload on Youtube for viewing.
8. Students must link there Youtube video in there Planet GTM thread.
Unit 2. – Intermediate Spline Rig / Look at Constraints / Morph Modifiers.
1. Students must down load Spray Can Billy with Modeled Face.
2. Students will learn to use Spline Shapes to rig a cartoon style in spray can with
Look at Constraints to animate the eyes.
3. Students will learn how to work the morpher modifier properly
4. Student will learn how to create Facial morphs for Spray Can Billy using
FFD Modifiers.
5. Student must create 5 facial morphs and render out the image and upload onto their
thread on Planet GTM.
Unit 3. – Animating Spray Can Billy using Facial Morphs, Key Frame Animations / Auto Key Frames.
1. Students are to take their Spray Can Billy complete with facial morph targets and animate
the character using all his facial morphs.
2. Students are to render both Diffuse and Ambient Occlussion renders, compile them using After Effects.
3. Render out a Quicktime H264 Movie and upload onto Youtube.
4. Students must link there youtube video in there Planet GTM thread.
Unit 4. – Spline , Path, Position Constraints / Path Deforms / Animating Camera’s
1. Students will learn how to work with dummy helpers.
2. Students will learn how to animate on Spline paths.
3. Students will learn how to use FFD’s for Squash and Stretch.
4. Students will learn how to use the World Space Modifier (Path Deform)
5. Students will learn how to animate Camera’s , targer Camera’s and Link cameras to objects and Paths.
6. Students are to upload there 3D Studio Max file using their Dropbox Account and link their file in the Planet GTM thread.
Unit 5 – Working with Character Studio Biped / Footstep Mode / Walk Cycles / Set Key / Set Planted / Slide Keys/ Stationary Animations / Anchor Feet and Hands.
Students will watch a 3D Short animation film.
1. Students will learn how to work with Character Studio Biped.
2. Students are to customize the Character Studio Biped into a creature skeleton.
3. Foot step mode creations.
4. Custom Walk Cycles.
5. Set Planted Key / Slide Key and Anchor feet and Hands animations.
6. Students are to create a custom walk cycle using footstep mode.
7. Stationary Animation
8. Set Planted Key animations.
9. Students are to upload there 3D Studio Max file in there Dropbox account and link in there Planet GTM thread.
Unit 6 - Link and Unlink Constraints / Basic IK.
1. Students are to download the 3D Studio Max file named Props.
2. Students are to download the Blue Man character.
3. Students are to learn how to link and unlink objects to the world and onto the Biped.
4. Students are to animate Blue Man picking up a wine glass and tea pot pouring the tea pot into the wine glass and then setting the objects back onto the table.
5. Students are to sit the Blue Man sitting on the bar stool picking up a shot glass and drinking it then putting the shot glass down.
6. Students are to learn how to Link props to drive the biped.
7. Students have to animate the Blue Man Lifting weights/ Bar Bells.
8. Students are to Upload there file on their Dropbox account and link it in there Planet GTM thread.
Unit 7 - Lip Synch Animation / Motion Mixer.
1. Students are to motion mix up to three seperate BIP animations.
2. Students are to download a movie sound byte to learn how to lip synch animation to a character using its morph modifier.
Unit 8 - Modeling Character Legs / Body / Hands.
1. Students are to learn how to model using edge loop techniques to model out a characters legs and body.
2. Student will continue to learn how to model character hands.
Unit 9 - Modeling head and hair / Clothes/ Basic IK.
1. Students will learn how to model a characters head and face features.
2. Students will learn how to model clothes of exsisting polys.
3. Students will learn how to use hair and Fur Modifier for hair etc.
4. Students will learn how to model hair using different techniques.
Unit 10 - Rigging/ Character Studio Biped / Mixamo.
1. Student will review on how to rig a character using Character Studio Biped.
2. Students will learn how to rig a character using mixamo.com
Unit 11 - Final Project..
1. Students are to complete there character model with, head, hands, clothes, and rigged using mixamo.com
2. Students are to pose there character and render out an image 1280x720.
3. Student must post thre renders in there respected threads.
